How Your Elevator’s Condition Affects Your Riders

How Your Elevator’s Condition Affects Your Riders

In terms of transportation devices, elevators happen to be among the safest. Yet still, when a person enters an elevator, he or she may have several different fears. Most people have a fear of an elevator falling or of becoming trapped. As soon as the elevator doors close, if anything goes wrong, guests are likely to panic.

Most people don’t like small spaces. Elevators can cause people to react with a fight or flight reaction due to the small space and nature of an elevator. It is up to you, as the building owner, to do whatever you can to ease the fear.

Sounds Invoke Fear

For an elevator to transport guests from one floor to another, it relies on several different components. The cables, pulleys, and other equipment may have noises associated, but most do not interfere with the ride. Poor maintenance that leads to thuds, bangs, or crashes, however, can lead to a fear response. Sometimes, the use of elevator music can help keep commuters relaxed.

Vibrations Are Alarming

Riders expect a smooth ride. When your elevator jolts or vibrates, it can lead guests to believe that something is wrong. It’s no surprise that people begin to imagine the worst-case scenario when the elevator bumps or jars the passengers. Sudden movements may not indicate that there is anything seriously wrong with the elevator, but it can easily make guests believe that the problem is worse than it is.

Sights Lead to Worries

Everything that a person sees, the brain tries to process to determine whether it is safe or unsafe. When a commuter enters an elevator that has seen better days, he or she may interpret it as poorly maintained and therefore unsafe. To have a polished, clean, and updated elevator can change how a person feels while riding.

How you maintain your elevator will change how people feel during the ride. It is up to you, as the building manager to ensure that everyone feels safe in the elevator. To find out how to improve your elevator, contact Action Elevator by calling 410-774-4573 or emailing us today!
