Evaluating the Building Structure and Support
When an architect designs a building, one of their first tasks is where to place the elevator. Each individual floor also needs to support a loaded carriage. Planning for a lift is important in a well-designed building.
The technicians inspect each elevator shaft after the builders construct the building. This ensures the elevator shafts are structurally sound and each floor can handle an elevator at full capacity.
Installing the Rail Brackets and Guide Rails
Assuming the shaft and building pass inspections, the parts of the elevator are installed one after another.
The rail brackets need to be as straight as possible. These brackets are what keep the elevator running in a straight line. The rail brackets are installed beginning at the top, and every bracket is triple-checked to ensure elevator safety.
Once the rail brackets are perfectly straight, the guide rails are installed which connect to the carriage with guide shoes.
Fitting the Elevator Drive
The next major step in the elevator installation process is installing the elevator drive type. There are many types of elevator drives, but they all control the up and down movement of the elevator.
Traction and hydraulic drives are the two major drive types. Traction drives use a counterweight and pully system to precisely move the elevator carriage. Hydraulic drives use pressurized oil to move the carriage instead of the pully system.
Installing the Carriage and Gates
The carriage is the major compartment that people will ride in. The gates enclose the elevator shaft when the carriage is on a different floor, and these components operate in tandem.
When the carriage arrives at the exact floor level, the elevator doors open. Technicians install wiring and magnets to ensure the carriage moves properly.
These are the components that hide the complexity of the elevator and make a smooth floor transition.
The panels and gates keep people inside the carriage and allow the elevator to function well.
Installing the Electrical Wiring
With all the components in place, the elevator is wired to prepare it for commercial use.
Once the technician wires the major components, they will test everything to ensure your elevator is functioning safely and efficiently. After certification, the elevator is ready for operation.
