4 Tips for Hiring an Elevator Company

Elevators are a staple in most commercial establishments with two floors or more. However, when elevators fail to function properly, this can lead to disgruntled riders, potential injury and even lawsuits. This is why it’s important to hire an elevator company that cares about your business and the safety of the guests on your premises as much as you do. Here are four tips for hiring an elevator company that meets this requirement.

1. Ask Around

Finding other property managers who recommend elevator companies is fairly easy. The next time you attend a conference or see colleagues from other building sites, be sure to ask who they’ve been working with and how good the service is. Or, rather than wait, simply send them an email or give them a call.

2. Check for Licensing and Insurance

Most elevator companies will have the term “licensed and insured” somewhere on their website. This may have been true at the time the website was built, but is it still true, today? Always ask for proof of licensing and insurance.

3. Available Technicians

If you manage a large building with multiple elevators, a large number of floors and hundreds of tenants, the number of available technicians at the elevator company you choose to work with is very important. The number of available technicians will affect the following:

  • Response times during emergencies
  • The number of technicians or engineers who respond to an emergency
  • Whether or not same-day service is provided

4. Technical Compatibility

Due to the cost of changing out elevator systems, many older buildings are still using outdated systems that some elevator engineers and mechanics are no longer trained in. Always ensure the engineers have experience working with the specific elevator types at your building.

If you are currently looking for an elevator company for your building, consider Action Elevator. We bring decades of experience to the field and look forward to adding you to our client roster. Send us an email to request a maintenance proposal or give us a call at 410-774-4573.
