3 Preventative Maintenance Musts for Commercial Elevator Owners

Preventative Maintenance is Key

Your commercial elevator plays a crucial role in the efficiency of your building. When it’s not in the best shape, you could experience delays and unhappy clients, tenants, or customers. While taking care of repairs in a timely manner is going to help, you should also consider preventative maintenance. The following are three things you should do to ensure your elevator remains in good condition.

1. Inspect Daily

Even though you inspected your elevator yesterday, it was used today, and something could have gone wrong. You don’t have to do a very detailed run-through every day, but just a simple inspection to be sure there isn’t any noticeable damage. Do all the buttons work without sticking? Have any lights gone out? Is there too much of a delay before the elevator gets going after the door has shut? Catching these little things could help you avoid more costly repairs in the future.

2. Keep a Complete Log

Any time you have your elevator repaired, you should keep a log of the issues you took care of. Doing so will help you notice trends that need to be addressed. If there is one repair you complete every three months, you can get it scheduled ahead of time. If you notice a certain recurring issue that directly relates to powering the machine, you could speak with the professionals about improving the amount of power you have. Your log can also be used to show the repair company what has gone on in the past.

3. Learn How to Clean it Properly

Certain products can destroy the surface of your elevator, and others can corrode internal mechanisms. If you have not learned how to properly clean an elevator, you shouldn’t risk it. Take some time to speak with the professionals so you can learn what chemicals to use, what methods to use, and when you should avoid the job yourself, leaving it to someone who knows how to clean properly.
